Local Florist Tutorial
Hey Creative! How great that you have found your way to our blog and tutorials. Welcome aboard!
This one is a really fun tutorial: we will guide you step by step on How to create a flower centerpiece using our Local Florist’s DIY Flower Centerpiece Kit as our guideline.
First we are going to tell you a little secret: you don’t need to have any previous experience on floral design to start creating your own floral designs with this tutorial. No matter what is your backround, are looking for a new hobby or dreaming to became a professional florist one day or if you just want to try something new and creative – this for you. You can be your own local florist.
To start creating a flower centerpiece you will need to have:
a vessel for the centerpiece, a netting wire base, a tape to attach the netting wire to your vessel & towel to secure your table from the scratches and water (all of these are included in our DIY Flower Centerpiece Kit)
+ you will need some material, the flowers or foraged greenery or dried ornaments and a pair scissors and snippers.
Only the sky and your creativity is the limit when you are choosing the right materials to this centerpiece. We encourage always to use seasonal flowers and local flowers if possible.
You should start with preparing all the materials and tools ready. Tidy you material (take all of the extra leaves away from the stems), grab your tool kit ready, place the towel to secure your table and put some inspiring music on! Make sure you have a right size of netting wire sheet to your vessel ready.
Let’s start with creating the base, structure to your centerpiece. The structure holds all of your flowers to stay in the right place in the centerpiece. It stops them from falling out. In this tutorial we will use the netting wire technique which is very easy and sustainable technique. You can use the same structure time after time, just clean the netting wire ball in between uses.
Take the netting wire sheet to your hands and start gently folding the edges of the sheet in to the middle. You will want to create a netting wire pillow. Imagine a creating a ball from the wire. Squeeze the ball to the size of your vessel and then place it in to your vessel.
Next you will need to attach the netting wire ball to your vessel. We like to use the clear pot tape because it is unnoticeable.
Stretch the tape from the other side to another and the other way too, making a cross on top of the ball. This will keep your structure in place. AFTER placing the tape pour the water into the vessel. The tape doesn’t usually attach to wet surfaces.
After making the base and attaching to the vessel your creative work and hopefully creative flow starts!
You can now start to arrange your flowers to your centerpiece. We recommend that you start with few of the longest stems to get the form to the centerpiece that you are wishing for. Then continue with the heaviest, the biggest ones and leave the most delicate ones at last.
The materials we used in this flower centerpice was white Syringa vulgaris (lilacs) and white Scabiosa + some of our favorite dried treasures like white palm leaves and Lunaria seed pots.
Thank you for watching this tutorial hope you had fun! And hope you are now inspired to try your own floral designing skills!
